‘Eleanor Roosevelt’ to appear in Vero Beach

One of America’s most highly respected and admired First Ladies, Eleanor Roosevelt, once acknowledged that “everything I ever did was accomplished across a barrier of fear.”

On Sunday, Feb. 16, Jane VanBoskirk will appear in the one-woman play, “Across a Barrier of Fear: The Life of Eleanor Roosevelt” at the Vero Beach Theatre Guild. Written by Sharon Whitney, the play follows Eleanor from lonely, neglected childhood to the world stage. We trace her growing awareness of the world, witness through her eyes the political rise of Franklin D. Roosevelt, follow her as she reinvents the role of First Lady. We see how she learned to articulate her values and vision, how she kept moving forward despite disappointments and defeat, and how she built up her courage while facing daily that “barrier of fear.”

The afternoon begins with refreshments at 1pm, courtesy of Florida Eye Institute, followed by the play at 2 p.m. Tickets, at $40 per person, with student tickets at $20 each, are available from the Theater Guild box office, online through VeroBeachTheatreGuild.com, and at AAUW Vero Beach events.

For more information, contact Sally Fitzgerald at sallyter@bellsouth.net or 772-492-1851.

The event is sponsored by the Vero Beach American Association of University Women, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. All proceeds will support scholarships, grants and programs for women and girls in Indian River County.
