LAURA RIDING JACKSON FOUNDATION’S ADULT WRITERS WORKSHOP “POETRY: APPOINTMENTS WITH SURPRISE”
Speaker: Donald Morrill, award-winning author of three volumes of poetry, currently teaches in the Low-Residency MFA program at the University of Tampa.

Topic: POETRY: APPOINTMENTS WITH SURPRISE
Rhetorical forms—recurring gestures, turns in narrative, argument, tone— contribute to the overall sense and pleasure we derive from the work. This workshop will explore these forms through well-known poetry and poems submitted in advance by participants. (E-mail submission by April 3rd to: lrjfoundation@gmail.com)

Donald Morrill is the author of three volumes of poetry, Awaiting Your Impossibilities(2015 Florida Book Award), At the Bottom of the Skyand With Your Back to Half the Day, as well as four books of nonfiction, Impetuous Sleeper,TheUntouched Minutes(River Teeth Literary Nonfiction Prize), Sounding for Cool, and A Stranger’s Neighborhood. His debut novel Beaut received the Lee Smith Novel Prize from Carolina Wren Press published in 2018.

His work has appeared widely in magazines and journals, and has also received the Emerging Writers of Creative Nonfiction Award from Duquesne University Press, the Mid-List Press First Series Award, the Anne Halley Poetry Prize from The Massachusetts Reviewand The Missouri Review Editor’s Prize for Nonfiction.
He has served as a foreign expert at Jilin University, Peoples’ Republic of China, and been a Fulbright Lecturer at the University of Lodz, Poland. A past board officer of AWP (The Association of Writers and Writing Programs), he has been the Bedell Visiting Writer in the Nonfiction Writing Program at the University of Iowa and Tammis Day Writer-in-residence at the Poetry Center at Smith. Currently he teaches in the Low-Residency MFA in Creative Writing Program at the University of Tampa .
