The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra: Reinventing the 21st Century Orchestra
Under the vision and leadership of Aaron Collins, the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra reflects all that makes Central Florida special—it's creativity, spirit, beauty and quest for knowledge. The SCSO is an emerging player on our cultural landscape with a unique mission: to make professional classical music affordable and accessible to people of all ages. In an economic environment where many orchestras would fail, the SCSO is a success story: While providing more concerts than any other musical organization in Florida, the SCSO has launched bold initiatives and innovative programming that are gaining national attention.
The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra is reinventing the concept of a 21st-century orchestra by presenting the widest array of programming of any orchestra in Florida. Their focus is on creating programming that is balanced, accessible, innovative, and artistically expansive. Successfully growing their audience begins with what they bring to the stage, and continues with the ability to market and promote the Space and Treasure Coasts as cultural destinations. In any SCSO season, the audience can expect the best of what makes the SCSO a unique force in the community: the organization’s tradition of innovative programming, high-quality dynamic symphonic performances, active community engagement and commitment to arts education.
The Space Coast Symphony is Nationally Recognized
Since its founding in 2009, the SCSO has presented over 500 concerts throughout Central Florida. Typically, one-fifth of any SCSO audience is experiencing live classical music for the first time.
Amongst the SCSO’s greatest successes is the Symphony for Everyone program which enables anyone to attend any concert, no matter what their current financial situation. This nationally recognized program is the first of its kind. Locally, it has allowed more than 4,000 economically challenged individuals and families to attend a live symphonic concert.
Giving Back to the Community
The SCSO is especially proud to serve the area’s young musicians with two distinct youth education programs: the Mentorship Program, which provides professional mentorship opportunities for students; and the 18 & Under Club that allows all students aged 18 and under free admittance to all of our concerts.
