Pelican Island marks its 120th anniversary as the country’s FIRST National Wildlife Refuge with an historic, educational and entertaining weekend celebration.
President Theodore Roosevelt will help celebrate this historic occasion, and bring to life how in 1903, he came to establish Pelican Island as the first public land set aside for the exclusive benefit of wildlife.
FREE events at the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge include Meet-and-Greets with President Roosevelt, a wildlife display, kids’ activities, stroll the Centennial Trail boardwalk leading to the overlook of the island that started it all – Pelican Island.
"SUNDAE SOCIAL" on Sunday, March 12th from 11am to 3pm, meet President Theodore Roosevelt at Centennial Trail at 4055 Wildlife Way, Vero Beach. Stop by for an ice cream treat, have your picture taken with President Roosevelt and stroll the Centennial Trail for a view of Pelican Island.
