“Camp Hibiscus”: Special Memories & Summer Fun for Kids

06-27-2025

For most children, summer means long days filled with laughter, adventure, and cherished family moments. But for children who have experienced trauma in their young lives, summer has often been just another reminder of what they’ve lost. Thanks to the generosity of our community and the unwavering dedication of the Hibiscus staff and volunteers, that’s changing.

Through “Camp Hibiscus,” a ten-week summer program designed specifically for the children at Tilton Family Children’s Shelter, these young survivors are now able to experience the joy, freedom, and healing that summer can offer. Camp Hibiscus provides a full schedule of recreational and educational outings, field trips, hands-on learning, and opportunities to simply be kids.

Summer camp isn’t just a fun distraction, it’s a lifeline. For children who’ve endured trauma, the structure and enrichment of Camp Hibiscus helps rebuild trust, develop social skills, and foster a renewed sense of safety and belonging.  Camp activities include visiting the park, the beach, picnics, Lion Country Safari and SeaWorld, arts and crafts, and  learning about nature, to name a few.  These adventures are powerful tools for healing and experiencing the joys of childhood.

When the school year begins again, Hibiscus children will walk into class not only with new school supplies but with fun memories, exciting stories, and a sense of confidence they can carry with them. These shared experiences also help them connect with their peers and reclaim the childhood they deserve.

Every child deserves a summer filled with smiles and adventure. At Hibiscus Children’s Center, camp is more than just play, it’s part of the healing journey, and thanks to our supporters, it’s a journey filled with hope.

Thank you to all the camp volunteers, staff, supporters, local businesses and organizations who help give children a wonderful summer filled with joy and fun! For more information about how you can get involved and help children, please visit us at HibiscusChildrensCenter.org.
