Kokeshi Doll-Making Workshop for the Whole Family

10-02-2026

This Thanksgiving break, bring the family to the Vero Beach Museum of Art (VBMA) for a Hokusai, Hiroshige, Hasui: Japanese Landscapes in Print exhibition-inspired workshop Monday, November 23 through Wednesday, November 25, 2026. Drop in at the Museum between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., pick up an engaging family guide and complete it in the galleries as you explore the exhibitions on view. Then head to the Laura and Bill Buck Atrium to participate in this unique, hands-on workshop to create your own kokeshi-inspired wooden doll.

Traditional kokeshi are handcrafted Japanese figures known for their simple forms and expressive painted designs. Using premade wooden figures as a starting point, participants can decorate their dolls with paint or markers and embellish them with fabric and felt to create unique, personalized characters.

This activity is included with admission, and materials are provided to participants. Registration is not required. The workshop is open to all ages, but children should be accompanied by an adult.

This workshop is made possible by the generous support of our sponsors.
