A Tangled Plot: Works by Annie Blazejack and Geddes Levenson
July 12–October 5, 2025
Holmes Gallery

This original VBMA exhibition will showcase 42 paintings and mixed media works by the collaborative duo Annie Blazejack and Geddes Levenson. Blazejack and Levenson have been creating and exhibiting together for more than a decade, and their work, which spans various media, draws on a diverse range of influences, including science fiction, fantasy, mythology, and theater, and reflects their shared focus on the environment and their upbringing in Miami, Florida. In their artworks, land, water, animals, and humans become characters in ongoing narratives. Their highly collaborative artistic process is nonlinear—they take turns adding to each piece, layering ideas over time. As a result, their paintings evolve like living conversations as they grow, shift, and transform.  This exhibition is curated by VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell and organized by the Vero Beach Museum of Art.

Organized into four sections—traditional portraiture, artists who incorporate vernacular photographic styles, themes of connection and care, and unconventional examples—these works demonstrate the many ways photography captures the complexities of human relationships, memory, and identity—offering a layered and multifaceted portrait of the American South. Double Portraits is curated by VBMA Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell and organized by the Vero Beach Museum of Art with photographs on loan from collection of the Do Good Fund, Columbus, Georgia.

Construction: from Abstraction to Architecture
Opens February 7, 2026

Schumann and Stark Galleries
Since the early 20th century, artists have explored the concept of construction in various ways. Geometric abstractionists used rigid structures and grids as compositional frameworks, while the Bauhaus and Constructivist movements embraced art through the lens of engineered design, often inspired by industrial materials and architecture. Mid-century artists continued this exploration with structured geometric compositions, leading to Minimalism, where industrial materials and modular systems emphasized repetition and form. Today, contemporary art and architecture engage with these ideas, particularly by focusing on facades and the materials and techniques used to create them. This exhibition, drawn primarily from the VBMA’s permanent collection with select loans, examines construction’s influential role in modern and contemporary art. Construction: from Abstraction to Architecture is curated by Chief Curator Caitlin Swindell and organized by the Vero Beach Museum of Art.
