Vero Beach Museum of Art Presents Museum in the Garden: Envisioning the New VBMA
12-12-2025Opening January 9, 2026, Museum in the Garden: Envisioning the New VBMA traces the evolution of the design for Vero Beach Museum of Art’s new home and transformed campus through the works and words of Allied Works and Unknown Studio Landscape Architecture & Urban Design. On view in the Museum’s Stark Gallery, the exhibition will feature approximately 160 works, including hand-drawn concept sketches, architectural drawings, renderings and models, which invite visitors to follow the creative process behind the project’s design, both inspired by and deeply rooted in Vero Beach.
The Museum’s new 90,000-square-foot-building will expand its capacity to welcome visitors from Vero Beach and beyond, and advance the growth of its collections, exhibition programs, and educational offerings. Its design comprises a series of walled gardens, terraces, and courtyards that interweave art and nature and blur the line between the Museum and the surrounding Riverside Park. Terraced landscaping elevates the Museum within the park, harnessing the beauty and subtropical climate of its unique barrier island setting while enhancing resiliency.
“The design for the transformed campus represents VBMA’s role and influence as the Treasure Coast’s preeminent cultural convener,” says VBMA Executive Director Brady Roberts. “Museum in the Garden: Envisioning the New VBMA illuminates the iterative creative process behind the project—the most significant update in the institution’s history—and is a ‘must-see’ for lovers of art and architecture.” Page 2 of 2 “The new VBMA will be more than a museum—it will be a profound statement of place and an open invitation to all,” says Brad Cloepfil, Founding Principal of Allied Works. “Similarly, this exhibition invites viewers to become immersed in the images and ideas that inspired and gave shape to the project’s design while providing important context about VBMA’s unique geographic setting, the challenges of designing a building in this setting, and the ways in which the new design will leverage its site to create a resilient campus and unforgettable visitor experience where art and nature are fully entwined.”
Museum in the Garden: Envisioning the New VBMA is organized by the Vero Beach Museum of Art and Allied Works and made possible by the generous support of our Director's Sponsor: Turner Construction Company. It will remain on view through February 7, 2027.
