IRSA was founded in 1986 by a small but dedicated group of soccer enthusiasts. Their mission was to create an entirely inclusive athletic association that offered any child the opportunity to play soccer for fun. That first season included 45 players of all ages and 4 coaches. Today, IRSA serves over 1000 children annually, with two 8-Week seasons, rostering over 80 teams for children aged 4-18.
In 1996 IRSA leased approximately 20 acres from Indian River County, off 58th Avenue at 77th St. (across from and behind the fair grounds). On this property we built eleven soccer fields for our teams to play on. Our fields are the envy of soccer people for miles around. To keep up with our growth we recently annexed 7 acres to hold more fields including one that will be lit for night play.
In addition to our recreational league, which is open to all children regardless of playing experience, IRSA has a competitive league for advanced players who are serious about playing soccer. We are proud of the fact that a majority of our varsity players from middle school through high school, public, private and religious were spawned in our organization. Many have gone on to play in college or on premiere state, regional and national teams.
IRSA also provides tournament play for both our leagues. These tournaments, usually two-day affairs, are held at our soccer complex. Teams from all over Florida come to Indian River County to compete in our tournaments and in the process stay in our hotels, eat in our restaurants and shop in our stores.
IRSA is a non-profit corporation and is completely run by volunteers. We have a 14 member board of directors that meets once a month.
If you are interested in joining us please visit our website and feel free to contact any of our board members for a tour of our facilities or to get registration information. We also welcome tax-deductible donations and have many sponsorship opportunities for local businesses.
