Write a ReviewOne thing everyone immediately understands is that the Town of Orchid, on north Orchid Island, is a piece of paradise right here in Indian River County. The smallest Town in the County stretches from the Atlantic Ocean on the east, to the Indian River Lagoon on the west, starting a mile or so north of Route 510. The Town is a master planned community incorporated in 1965 with the goal of preserving the splendor of the island. The Town is 1,199.62 acres in size or 1.87 square miles, includes approximately 300 West Indies style single-family homes and 10 oceanfront condominiums, which altogether are called home by over 500 residents – for the winter and early spring months particularly.
The Town boasts one exclusive gated community known nationally for its luxury Country Club by the name of Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club. If you’ve ever ridden along lush Jungle Trail, you may have caught a glimpse of the superb Arnold Palmer designed golf course, as the famous historic road snakes through Town. The Town is sometimes mistakenly called the "Town of Orchid Island" and it’s easy to see why that happens.
Our Town Hall is located in the Orchid Professional Centre on the northwest corner of Route 510 and A1A. It is the “work home” of two full-time employees, the Town Manager and the Town Clerk, who are both Charter Officers, and one part-time Building Clerk. You can visit on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but there is a daily closure for lunch for half an hour starting at noon. Meetings of the Town Council are usually held at Town Hall on the first Wednesday of the month starting at 9 a.m. The Town’s website has an up-to-date calendar where agendas are posted.
Golf is the number one pastime in the Town of Orchid, but the Tennis/Fitness and Beach Clubs, as well as Kayak Cove tucked within the Town’s spoil islands, offer further leisure activities to the residents and their guests and allow them to take full enjoyment of the picturesque setting of the Town. Everyone’s favorite Town residents are the otters, who live and play around the golf course, and the turtles, who annually visit the sandy beach. And don’t forget about the impressive white pelicans that call this Audubon-Certified community home too. They all agree that the splendors of the island continue to be successfully preserved.
