Vero Beach, FL
Though named “Pilot”, the club has nothing to do with flying!
The riverboat pilots of the early nineteenth century are the inspiration for the name. These pilots were much admired for their ability to steer a true course through challenging conditions and obstacles. Pilot members have the same vision for their respective communities.
Although Pilot International addresses a broad spectrum of community needs through each individual chapter, its main focus is on helping alleviate the debilitating effects of brain related disorders. The Pilot International Foundation donates thousands of dollars each year for this purpose.
Chartered in 1958 by Pilot International, the PILOT CLUB OF VERO BEACH, Inc. has supported and encouraged local youths with annual scholarships and performance based awards. It has initiated many local community programs such as 911 and lifeline. In addition, each year the club donates funds to several local agencies.
Its ongoing programs include safety awareness programs such as the “Brainminders” presentations in area elementary schools, providing children with bicycle helmets, working with the Police Department’s safety programs and donating funds to county projects to provide access to park facilities for wheelchair-bound children.
Funds are raised with an annual Fashion Show in the Spring, donations from the corporate community, a Card Party in the Fall and various other small fund raising efforts as needed to support its community projects.
