The Vero Beach Police Department has been accredited by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) since February of 2002. The initial accreditation is valid for three years. The Department has completed the reaccreditation process in 2005, 2008, 2011 and 2014. The Department is scheduled for reaccreditation again in 2017.

The Vero Beach Police Department is seperated in to three divisions; The Patrol Division, The Detective Division, and Professional Standards. The Patrol Division consists of The Traffic Unit, Animal Control, Parking Enforcement, Critical Response Team, Motor Unit, K-9 Unit and Marine Unit. The Detective Division consists of the General Crimes Unit, The Special Investigations Unit, The Crime Scene Unit, and Property and Evidence. The Professional Standards Unit Consists of Communications, Record Management, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E), Community Services Division, Code Enforcement and Information Systems.
