City of Sebastian
Sebastian is a city located at the northern end of Indian River County, Florida. As of 2009, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau is 20,215.It is recognized as the home of Pelican Island, the first designated wildlife refuge in the United States.
Sebastian has an unobstructed view of the intra-coastal waterway in the Indian River Lagoon along its historic riverfront district. The total area of Sebastian is 13.6 square miles of which .9 square miles is water (6.86%).
Sebastian and the rest of northern Indian River County comprise one of the fastest-growing areas of Florida in the first decade of the 21st century. The Sebastian area has one acute care hospital, Sebastian River Medical Centerand a small library at the other end of Roseland Road. There are four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school in the city. The unincorporated township of Roseland is often included into the city of Sebastian, but is outside city limits. Roseland was actually founded earlier than the city of Sebastian and retains much of its old-Florida charm, particularly in the oldest section along the banks of the St. Sebastian River. The Sebastian Highlands neighborhood hosts many new construction projects, parks, and sports facilities.
Sebastian residents include many retirees and families. The largest private employers in Sebastian are Publix supermarket and Sebastian River Medical Center, followed closely by city and county government.
Sebastian is home to airplane manufacturer Velocity Aircraft located at the Sebastian Airport. The airport is also home to Skydive Sebastian.

The City of Sebastian, Florida is located in Indian River County approximately midway through the east coast of the Florida Peninsula between Melbourne and Vero Beach in an area known as the Treasure Coast. It is recognized as the home of Pelican Island, the first designated wildlife refuge in the United States, a Millennium City, and a Tree City USA.
